What You Should Always Have in Your Car Emergency Kit

Fire Extinguisher
Most emergency kits don’t require a fire extinguisher, but you should always include one in your roadside emergency kit. One of the most dangerous car situations is an engine or interior fire. If the car catches fire, quick use of the fire extinguisher can save you.

If you notice that your car is on fire, stop it immediately until it is safe to do so. Watch for oncoming traffic and get out of the car. You have to make a judgment call here. If the fire is small, put it out quickly if you think you can get a fire extinguisher from the first aid kit. However, if the fire is already very large, especially if the engine has caught fire, it is worth pulling as far away from the car as possible.
